Secretary's Desk To contact the Secretary of our Lodge (Paul Dore) Please call: 928-425-2891 or 602-920-0456 From the East I write you for the first time as Worshipful Master of this venerable Lodge. I am deeply humbled by this honor and will be forever grateful for the trust you have placed in me in voting me to the Oriental Chair. There is much work to do and I will be calling on all of you to aid me in this most important endeavor over the next year. As an old Scoutmaster, I hope to bring some of the same principles to this Lodge…….specifically, that old Scouter’s rule that you should “always leave the camp site in better condition when you leave as that you first found it in. These past several years have been good to our Lodge, due in large part to the past Worshipful Masters who preceded me. I vow to you to continue their hard work for the good of Masonry in general and White Mountain Lodge #3 in particular. We recently elected two new men to receive their degrees in Masonry. Inasmuch as the Masonic fraternity seeks to admit only good men and true to our numbers, then to make these “good men better men” we can only be truly excited at the wonderful prospects their participation will bring to our Lodge. We also have Brother Marquardt, who is working very hard to learn and to soon become our latest Master Mason. We often speak of the need to assign a “mentor” to each of our new candidates, men who will dedicate themselves to work directly with these new brothers to teach them all they need to know about Masonry and to guide them in their early studies. We are all “mentors”, or we should be. It is incumbent upon each of us to engage our newest brothers and to assist them in every way to become better men and to fully embrace them as our brother in Masonry. To this point, I ask each of you to dedicate yourself to “mentoring” our new brothers. Another goal I have in mind for the Lodge is to become more engaged in our local schools. Having read over the numerous essays that have been presented to us in the past several years, I have come to recognize that the youth of this community are begging for guidance and the example of leadership from their elders. We really need to work more closely with the teachers and the administrators of our schools, to volunteer to assist them in every way we can to teach the children how to become better citizens in this community. They are our future. I close by asking each of you to spread the good word of Masonry, to seek out those good men among us who we feel would be better men as fellow Masons. We have conducted ourselves as a secret society for far too long. We need to become more visible and to participate more within our own communities, setting the example and leading by our good works so that more men will want to join us. Fraternally yours, William A. Garrard, Jr.
From the South Brethren, I am proud once again to serve this lodge in the South. I first served this lodge in the South in 1999 which was the year I was raised to the Sublime degree as a Master Mason. At that time, the lodge hadn't seen a Trestleboard in 13 years and I was the first one raised in about six years. Since that time, we have seen the lodge start to blossom and reassert itself as a leader in the community. We have started two main programs since then, the Bike for Books and the Officer's Appreciation Day. The bike program have reasserted the lodge into the school program and have provided dozens of bikes to deserving children in Miami and Globe. Through our Officer Appreciation Program, we have honor deserving individuals who have served the Miami and Globe area with dedication and distinction. I have been proud to be part of this change and I hope to be part of the continuance of this progress. During this time, we have since new members take an active role in the lodge and for the past two years we have been lead by a member of the community, Scott Teichrow. We have more men in the degree cycle which we feel will be strong assets in the future of our lodge. Please come out and welcome them starting with Fred Marquardt's 3rd degree on January 24th. Fred has been active during his degree work and will be a great asset to the lodge. After our February meeting, we plan on initiating two men into the fraternity, Joshua Beason and Levi Shaffer. We come out and welcome them. I appreciate all those who have donated money toward the Bikes for Books Program. I helped start this program and through your generosity, the cost to the lodge has been very minimal. This program has continued to grow. I look forward to expanding our programs to the community. Fraternally, Bill Greenen, Junior Warden |

The deadline for completing the application – along with other required documents – is March 1, 2009. The completed application and other documents are to be submitted to the Lodge Secretary by that date. Applications will be reviewed, forwarded to the Grand Lodge Scholarship Committee, which will consider the applications and notify the successful recipients in the late May – June of 2009. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be the son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter of an Arizona Master Mason, or be an Arizona member (or an Arizona senior/majority member) of DeMolay, Rainbow Girls or Jobs Daughters.
